2015 Gua Feng Zhai – Taidou Series (T5)

2015 Gua Feng Zhai – Taidou Series (T5)

After years of looking for it, I finally found a T5 (pure unmanaged ancient tree) that I can actually buy!

I’ve been treated to trying many T5 but either it was not available to buy, or it costed many thousand dollars for a 357g cake.

This is my favourite sheng puerh at the moment, I’m really really impressed by how much of it is there, it’s got all the taste qualities in overwhelming amount and a very deep Qi.

Immediate aftertaste both in cup and mouth, thick and smooth, some bitterness without astringency (which is very satisfying and a very good sign of very high quality puerh), in later steeps there’s a lot of huigan.

Tea is very patient (goes for many steeps) as you’d expect from a T5, as I write I find myself still saying “wow” at steeping 12th or so and finally starting to boil it.

Immediate Qi, I first feel very slow and calm, and it later transforms into a very invigorating effect, calm but my body feels stronger and my mind clearer.

After getting covid and losing sense of smell and taste, this is the very first tea that’s so obvious in both aspects that I felt fully healed.

Gua Feng Zhai (“windy village”) is a famous area in Yiwu because it being very windy, trees produce less leaves and therefore each leaf is more concentrated, add to this that it’s pure unmanaged ancient tree and it’s near the very very top of all sheng puerh.

It’s likely that for most of us, this’ll be the very best sheng we can ever drink or certainly among them.

You can see from the pictures that it’s already quite dark: real T5 can age much faster with humidity without the tea developing defects.

This tea is priced extremely well for what it is and not to make a profit, but to give the possibility to other seekers to try a real T5.

I have a very small amount and it may stop be available at any moment, remember T5 is not a commercial endeavour and I could only get this based on a relationship cultivated over time, but my source also doesn’t have much, so when it’s gone it’s gone.

I strongly suggest trying this tea at least twice, but I appreciate it’s pricey – you can choose to buy a 6g, 8g (or better: 12g, 16g by buying the same amount twice) sample at the same cost as the 100g cake with a tiny markup, I really want to make it as easy as possible for people to experience this, it might shake your whole understanding of puerh, it certainly did for me.

Pictures are of the 100g cake, the 357g has the same wrapper and leaf profile.

* Samples available now until I run out, cakes come in a beautiful gift tin and have a lead time of 2+ weeks (please contact us if it’s urgent)
