2005 and 2006 Mystic Wood Sheng Puerh

SKU: N/A Categories: , , ,

One of the best Yiwu tea I’ve ever tried, and certainly at this price point.

“Mystic wood” because it took us to a journey in a mysterious place, very good meditation energy, if subtle (it’s Yiwu after all!)

The leaves are so beautiful it’s like looking at “Tea porn”, ancient trees are always hard to tell 100%, but if there are some leaves that look like they come from un-managed big trees, it’s these. The other very good sign that points to very old trees is that it doesn’t run out of patience, it goes on and on and on.

This Tea is also a learning opportunity: We have the same cake from 2005 dry stored and from 2006 natural stored! So you can taste the difference that’s created by storing a tea with more or less humidity. You can see them side by side in the picture with 2 cakes, the greener one is dry stored 2005, the slightly darker one is natural stored 2006.

Every cake of dry stored comes with a free 25g bag of natural stored, and every cake of natural stored comes with a free bag 25g of dry stored!

Strong-but-gentle yiwu taste, sweet, thick, full of vitality, this is my idea of excellent Tea. The natural stored version is smooth, the dry stored version has a lot more “kick”. Also in terms of Qi, 2005 dry stored is more lively, 2006 natural stored is more calming.

While you may love the flavour of either stages of aging, if you need to choose a cake for aging longer term (3-5+ years) you should choose the dry stored, of course.

I really suggest adding this Tea to your order at least in the small quantity to learn what you like between dry and natural stored, it will come be very useful in your Tea journey.

Nice semi aged Yiwu and a good opportunity to taste dry and humid stored versions of the same material side by side. The dry starts off woody and resiny in early steeps and reminds me of a Biyun Hao Mahei pressing. Later steeps surprisingly shape shift into something that tastes much younger and reveals some of the original floral, honeyish top notes. The qi is bubbly and energizing with a bit of mental relaxation. The wet stored tea otoh is expectedly sweeter and danker with notes of damp November forest character. The qi here is deeper and more yin. This tea is more ready to drink now and if I had to choose one to drink now I’d go for the wet stored. But the dry is more complex and dynamic and I imagine that in 20 years will outshine it. Both of these teas could be a bit thicker and more concentrated with more stamina for my tastes but in this price range is definitely worth trying. My rating is actually 4 1/2 stars as for me to rate something as 5 it needs to be a world classic.
